Job Description:
Taft is currently seeking a Database Administrator to join the
Information Technology team in our Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland,
Columbus, Dayton, Detroit, Indianapolis or Minneapolis office.
Responsible for the management and maintenance of firm databases
ensuring that all are functional at all times. Provides support,
maintenance and implementation and integration for all database
systems and associated applications. Communicates with lawyers and
legal administrative staff regarding questions and problems.
Maintains positive contact with lawyers and staff and observes
confidentiality in all firm and client matters. All Taft employees

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Designs and develops database to meet the technical needs of
the applications and the business needs of the users that interact
with it and to optimize scalability, automation and efficient data
management, retrieval and storage.
- Integrates databases with firm financial and other systems and
databases.
- Maintains and supports databases for optimal performance which
includes, but is not limited to: creates, updates and maintains all
SQL-based and other databases, loads and converts data into
SQL-based and other databases, troubleshoots problems with database
systems, evaluates, tests and implements changes, upgrades and
updates according to standard practices, monitors database
performance and utilization, and creates tables, views, stored
procedures, functions, SQL triggers, scheduled tasks and report
queries.
- Performs basic network administration duties as needed which
includes, but is not limited to: performs regular maintenance of
SQL-based and other databases including backups and restores,
recycles SQL servers as necessary, updates, maintains SQL access
and security, and monitors and maintains hard drive space and
database size on SQL database servers.
- Develops, implements and maintains procedures for ensuring the
security and integrity of firm databases.
- Creates and maintains database backup, maintenance and disaster
recovery restore plans.
- Documents database configurations, procedures and
standards.
- Adheres to all firm IT processes and procedures.
- Resolves software problems and installs software and related
updates/upgrades for databases and associated
applications.
- Communicates regularly with the Director of Applications and
other members of the IT team on database issues/project
status.
- Responds timely and professionally to user
request/needs.
- Provides assistance to other IT staff in troubleshooting and
supporting all applications and SQL or other databases.
- Works collaboratively and demonstrates teamwork with other team
members, which includes willingness to assist others with overload
work, as requested and able.
- Monitors current trends, best practices and firm updates to
communicate the impact and make appropriate
recommendations.
- Utilizes firm software applications, firm resources and follows
firm procedures to ensure efficient delivery of work
product.
- Demonstrates impeccable integrity and adheres to strict
confidentiality standards. Keeps confidential all firm and client
information.
- Provides after-hours support as required.
- Performs other duties, responsible and special projects as
required.
Requirements:
- Technical knowledge of SQL Server administration, MS SQL
database support, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server
Integration Services (SSIS) and user interfaces normally acquired
through an associate degree in a computer or technology-related
field or equivalent experience.
- Technical knowledge of Boomi as an integration and development
tool.
- Technical knowledge of Intapp Integration Service (IIS) in
order to share data and automate tasks easily.
- Technical knowledge of some or all Intapp products is a
must.
- Ability to successfully turn technical and business
requirements into implemented database solutions.
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues effectively to
project team and end users.
- Strong problem solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and develop strong positive
relationships with attorneys, staff, clients and vendors.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to
work effectively with a diverse group of lawyers and staff
courteously and tactfully.
- Strong demonstrated abilities to organize, prioritize and
effectively manage and complete multiple, concurrent tasks and
projects under deadlines and time constraints.
- Stives to be proactive and takes initiative with all work
tasks.
- Work requires a high level of mental effort when performing a
high volume of problem solving tasks and performing other essential
duties.
- Work may require irregular hours, and often requires more than
40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
Reliability, dependability and regular attendance is essential.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or 5 years work experience
- 3 to 5 years of SQL database design and development
- 2-3 years HTML and Microsoft.NET programming
experience
- 3-5 years of progressively responsible work experience in a
position involving project coordination, management interface and
working with outside vendors
- Technical knowledge of Intapp IIS and Boomi
- Law firm experience preferred
